With so many cities, towns and communities, church and charity venues scattered throughout  North Carolina, sometimes the competition is horrendous on any given Saturday! The Capital City Cruisers hosted their 5th Annual Car Show on Saturday the 20^th of August amid such competition. There was the, for profit, “Carolina Classics in the Capital” event in Downtown Raleigh and the Cruise-In at the iconic Grill ’57which draws 200 to 300 cars on any given third Saturday. The Capital City Cruisers held their event at the Four Brothers Pizzeria  & Restaurant, 3919 New Bern Avenue, located at Beacon Plaza in Raleigh, NC.  Amid the competition, they were able to attract 85 beautiful cars and trucks in a shady parking lot. They gave Top 75 Awards, ”Best of ” Awards, a 50/50 raffle along with door prizes, raffles, food and drinks.

The Capital City Cruiser Car Club was formed from two relatively inactive Car “groups” in 2006.  This Club is a family oriented car club with many wives as active members and they very loyally support the car shows hosted by other local car clubs. You will see them, in their purple shirts, bringing an assortment of beautiful and tricked-out cars and trucks to car shows through the area. They really support those that support them!

This is a very community oriented car club. Their annual car show raises funds from loyal sponsors and revenues from car show participants’ registration fees. The funds raised go toward  the support of a group of charities. Among them are the Give Back Organization which includes 50 back to school backpacks with supplies; The Heart Transplant Organization; The Capital City Steelers Youth Sport Association; several families in need due to economic downturn; the Raleigh Rescue Mission; Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Cheer support for two families and local schools; provide toys to the Salvation Army for Christmas for approximately 30 children; and buy gift cards for the Angel Tree. As one can see this is quite a commitment to the community. The members, in addition to  revenues raised from their annual car show, contribute their time, talent and  personal monies to support these worthy charities throughout the year. The members also support local church events and charities by displaying their cars.

The President is Butch Snelling, but he gets a lot of help from Rocky Alston and Jimmy Sidney and the Club members to make this a successful car show each year! You always get your money’s worth at the Capital City Cruiser Car show and you get to see some very special cars at this event.  There are no “Rat Rods” in these garages!

In 2010 we were able to continue our Holiday Cheer program and continue to provide assistance to our community.  This Year we were able to provide funds to families and the Raleigh Rescue Mission for Thanksgiving, donate  to two families and two area schools, and provide toys to The Salvation Army for Christmas.  In addition to our Holiday Cheer program, we were also able to donate book bags and a monetary gift to the Give Back Organization, donate  to the Heart Transplant Organization, and provide a gift to the Capital City Steelers Youth Sports Association.  In 2011, we look forward to continuing this tradition.
